Phase II Water Project |

Construction completed and
handed over to the Client on the 30th June, 2011. The
defects liability period expires on the 30th June, 2012.
Project implementation status
Reticulation: 305 Kilometers of pipelines of varying
diameters 25 mm to 315 mm laid in the areas mentioned above
representing 100% of the coverage
Reservoirs: All the reservoirs are 100% complete
(High North Reservoir, and Thetsane steel tank)
Pumping Stations: Both medium north pumping station and
south west booster pumping station civil works and
electromechanical works are 100% complete.
Project Duration
The project was awarded to UNIK Construction Engineering for
works and Consulting Engineering Centre for consulting
services in December 2007 with the expected duration of 24
months followed by 12 months Defects Liability Period.
Funding Agency
The project was funded by the Arab Bank for Economic
Development of Africa (BADEA), OPEC, and the Government of
Lesotho.

Project implementation status
Reticulation: 100% COMPLETE in all the 3 Towns.
Rising mains: 100% COMPLETE
Reservoirs: All the reservoirs in the 3 Towns are
100% complete.
Steel tanks: 100% COMPLETE in the 3 Towns
Drilling Programme: 100% complete.
Sewerage networks: 100% COMPLETE in all the 3 Towns.
Rehabilitation of old WWTP: Rehabilitation works of
old WWTP in Roma and TY are complete. Security fence,
toilets and tool rooms are also complete. Disludging at
Maputsoe WWTP is complete and the security fence, toilet and
tools` room are also complete.
New wastewater treatment plant @ Roma: 100% COMPLETE
Project Duration
The revised completion date of this project was 30th March,
2011.
Funding Agency
The project was financed by the European Commission under
European Development Fund (EDF 9)

Tikoe –

Project Duration
The revised completion date of this project was 30th June,
2011 followed by 12 months defects liability period.
Funding Agency
The project is fully funded by Government of Lesotho under
the industrialization programme of the ministry of Trade,
Industry, Cooperatives and Marketing.

Project scope
This project is funded by Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
The scope of works involves the rehabilitation, upgrading,
extension and new works in the following components of a
water system:

The project comprises of four packages, which are:

Package 1, which includes
Maseru and Mazenod,

Package 2 is Semonkong,

Package 3 includes Mafeteng,
Mohale`s Hoek, Quthing, and Qacha`s Nek,

Package 4 includes
Mokhotlong, Butha-Buthe, and Leribe

Package 5 is Mapoteng
Project implementation status
Package 1: ENTSHA HENRA JV of South Africa has been
awarded the contract for Construction of this package. The
commencement date of the contract is 27th May, 2011 and the
expected completion date is the 2nd September, 2012.
Construction started in July and the Contractor is still on
schedule.
Package 2: The Final design report was submitted in
October, 2011, and it under review by MCC. Construction is
planned to start in March, 2012, and end in February 2013.
Package 3: The Information for Bids was advertised on
newspapers in November, 2011 and the site visit with
interested Contractor was also carried out. The revised
starting date for construction is 14th February, 2012, and
completion date is 20th March, 2013.
Package 4: The construction contract was awarded to
UNIK Construction in July, 2011. Construction started on the
6th October, 2011 and is planned to be completed on the 26th
September, 2012.
Package 5: The Information for Bids was advertised on
newspapers in October, 2011 and the site visit with
interested Contractor was carried out in November 2011. The
revised starting date for construction is 7th February,
2012, and completion date is 13th November, 2012.
