The day’s activities focused on promoting this year’s theme, right to health, where key note speeches from partners such as Mammoth health and ICAP provided insights into the latest trends in treatment, care, support and prevention of HIV/AIDS as well as Cancer. The emphasis was on adopting healthy life style of eating the right foods and regular exercise in this fun filled day where most employees took to the stage and showed off their talents in aerobics, fun games and football.
Director of Human Resources Mrs. Mamojela Koneshe explained that the Company continues to invest heavily in education and treatment programs for chronic diseases in a bit to not only enhance productivity but to ensure that the work force live long and healthy lives. She did not mince words when she talked about the culture of multiple concurrent partners which is fuelling the HIV infection rate.
The day is earmarked annually in remembrance of those who have passed on as a result of the pandemic, Mr. Lehlohonolo Manamolela, WASCO’s Chief Executive said this when delivering his remarks at the commemoration. He commended the efforts of the Government of Lesotho through institutions like the National Aids Commission, in the fight against HIV/AIDS. This day also calls on Basotho to unite in the fight against HIV/AIDS stigma which from time to time rears its ugly head to undermine efforts in curbing the pandemic.
Mrs. ‘Matiisetso Monare from NFit, wrapped up the day’s speeches with tips on eating the right food in appropriate portions and most importantly at correct times of the day. She emphasized the need for a well balanced meal and stated that breakfast as the most important meal of the day should never be skipped.
