When introducing the Board, the Minister explained that with a myriad of challenges that the water utility faces, the shareholders took their time in carefully appointing each member of the Board who would share their skills, knowledge and experiences in driving the necessary changes as contribution to the improvement of WASCO.
Minister Ntsekele also indicated that for the Board to succeed in shaping a new efficient and effective WASCO, it needs support from management and the staff.
He appealed to staff to work in unity with management in overcoming challenges and not to communicate WASCO challenges with outside parties. He asserted that solution for WASCO problems lies within its internal structures.
The newly appointed Chairperson of the Board of Directors Mr. Chabeli Ramolise stated that, as an individual he is a WASCO customer and expects a good service from the company. He continued that in his consultations with the management in the past few weeks after assuming their responsibilities as Board members, they are fully aware of the challenges facing the Company. He explained that each staff member has a role to play in improving the situation to make WASCO great, again. He pledged their commitment and support to ensure that WASCO delivers its mandate.
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Mr. Lehlohonolo Manamolela acknowledged that the Company’s image is tarnished due to the many challenges it is facing. Most of these challenges are as a result of high demand of water supply services and old infrastructure that contributes to water losses due to bursts and leakages. He said, they are working hard to source funding to rehabilitate infrastructure and develop projects to cater for the growing demand for services. He said it is his reverent hope that the new Board of Directors will play its part in ensuring that the Company overcomes some of its major challenges.
He thanked the Honourable Minister of Water for having made time to be with them in his tight schedule.
