In the third reporting quarter, our Maseru Centre recorded a significant non-revenue water (NRW) rate of 52%, with service connection leaks alone accounting for 15% of this loss – an alarming 390 million litres of water and an economic impact of 5.8 million Maloti per quarter. This situation demands immediate action.
That’s why WASCO, through its Technical Operations Division is proud to launch Operation Hlasela Metsi a Qhalanang – a comprehensive initiative to identify and repair critical leakage hotspots across our water distribution network. By integrating our new and old distribution systems under the Greater Maseru Water Supply Project, we are not only expanding our reach but also confronting the challenges of increased leakage points head-on.
Our Vision:
- Repair and revitalise our water infrastructure for efficiency and sustainability.
- Engage communities and stakeholders to create a proactive, responsive reporting culture.
- Rebuild trust by ensuring every leak reported is addressed swiftly.
Key Benefits:
- Reduced water losses and improved water efficiency
- Economic savings and better resource management
- A model for expanding sustainable repairs across our network
