In a significant step toward improving water supply to Tšenola, Mabote Litupung, Koalabata, Sekamaneng, Marabeng, Ha Tšiu, and Ha Foso in the northern part of Maseru, WASCO officially launched a new water transmission pipeline on Christmas Eve, December 24,
2024, at Ha Senekane. This pipeline connects to the High North Reservoir at Lancers Gap, a critical facility that has remained underutilised for decades. For the first time, the reservoir will now be filled to capacity, ensuring a more stable and reliable water supply to thousands of households across the affected areas.
These communities have endured erratic water supply for over a decade, despite previous initiatives such as the Maseru Peri-Urban Water Supply Project, Urban and Peri-Urban Water Supply Project, and the High North Reservoir Connection Project (2008–2016). Rapid population growth had outpaced the capacity of earlier projects, leaving the demand for water unmet. Speaking at the launch event, WASCO Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Falla Seboko, reflected on the project’s journey, which began in 2008 but faced delays before its completion in late 2024. Mr. Seboko emphasised the Government of Lesotho’s commitment to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG6), which aims for universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water by 2030.
While acknowledging the progress made, he reiterated WASCO’s readiness to go beyond its traditional jurisdiction to provide water to underserved areas, demonstrating the company’s dedication to achieving this global objective. The event was attended by local Chiefs, Honourable Members of Parliament representing Thuathe, Mokhethoaneng, and Majoe a Litšoene constituencies, as well as Councilors from the beneficiary areas. These leaders commended WASCO on this milestone achievement, recognising its contribution to improving livelihoods and advancing SDG6 for their communities.
